Appleton, Wisconsin-based Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh company, is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of custom fire apparatus. In 2015, Pierce sought out a Canadian partner to design & build a product specifically for the Canadian market to be sold exclusively through their Canadian dealers. After careful evaluation Pierce selected MAXIMETAL as its exclusive partner based on specific criteria:
Engineering collaboration between Pierce and Maxi brought the MAXI Saber to the Canadian Pierce dealer network in 2016.
The product combines the Pierce’s robust Saber chassis with the best of MAXIMETAL’s unique firefighting features to deliver excellent value to Canadian fire departments. Backed by the same warranty as a US-built Pierce, the Canadian dealer network ensures a full Pierce ownership experience. Deliveries began in 2016.
Later in 2016, confident in the quality of work being done for the Canadian dealers, Pierce approached MAXIMETAL for a second project. MAXIMETAL agreed to begin building a line of Enclosed Top-Mount Pumpers and Pump-in-Compartment Tankers on commercial chassis for the United States dealer network under the CONTENDER by MAXIMETAL product name. Deliveries began in 2017.
After 6 years of successful partnership between MAXIMETAL and Pierce Manufacturing, on June 13th, 2022, Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), announced that it had completed the acquisition of Maxi-Métal Inc.

MAXIMETAL proudly maintains its name, team members, Canadian facilities, and branding elements as the newest member of Oshkosh’s Fire & Emergency segment.
